For a Hyderabad family, buying a German Shepherd or a Golden Retriever online raises an obvious worry. How does a young puppy get from a breeder hundreds of kilometres away to a home in Gachibowli or Secunderabad, healthy and calm? It is the question Nearby Pets India hears most often from the city.
The online pet platform delivers to more than 770 cities across India. It says the journey itself is where trust is won or lost. “Anyone can post a photo of a puppy,” says Mohit Johari, Operations Head at Nearby Pets India. “The real work is everything that happens between the booking and the moment a family holds that puppy for the first time.”
Step by step: the journey
Nearby Pets India describes the process in five stages:
- Reservation. The buyer chooses a pet on the website or Android app and reserves it with a 25% advance.
- Age and health check. Puppies are released only when they are at least 42 days old. They have had their first vaccination (Puppy DHPP) and been dewormed. A veterinarian examines each pet 24–48 hours before dispatch and issues a vet certificate.
- Preparation for travel. The pet travels in a proper transport cage. The team plans timings around feeding and, in Hyderabad’s hotter months, the heat of the day. 4. Handover. The buyer meets the pet at delivery, checks it and its paperwork, and only then pays the remaining 75%. Nearby Pets India guarantees live arrival until this handover.
- The first week. A 7-day health guarantee covers the pet after arrival. The support team stays on WhatsApp to answer questions on feeding, sleep and the next vaccinations.
Why Hyderabad buyers ask more
The company says Hyderabad enquiries often come from first-time owners in new gated communities. Many are working professionals who have read about online pet scams. Larger breeds such as the German Shepherd, Labrador, Golden Retriever and Husky are popular, so the team pays particular attention to heat. Families are advised on early morning walks, cool resting spots and keeping water within reach.
“A Husky in Hyderabad is possible, but only with real commitment and an air-conditioned space,” says Soundarrajan Kannan, Founder & CEO of Nearby Pets India. “We say that plainly. A family that knows what to expect is a family that keeps its pet.”
Advice for first-time buyers
The company’s tips for anyone buying a puppy online, from any seller:
Never pay the full price before seeing the pet.
Ask for a vet certificate and the vaccination record.
Be wary of puppies offered younger than six weeks.
Check how the seller handles health problems in the first days at home.
“Online buying should feel as safe as buying from a neighbour,” says Mohd Asad Siddiqui, CTO of Nearby Pets India. “The 75% balance is tied to the handover, so the buyer always holds the stronger hand.”
Founded in 2023 in Kharar, Punjab, Nearby Pets India has served more than 1,000 customers across India, supported by regional partners and centres in several states.
