According to officials, a flash flood caused by heavy rain in a village in the Ramban region of Jammu and Kashmir early on Sunday resulted in the rescue of over 100 persons.
According to them, the constant rain also caused mudslides and landslides at about a dozen locations along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway between Nashri and Banihal, forcing the suspension of traffic.
Following the sudden flood that struck Dharam Kund village, about 40 residential homes sustained damage.
Despite the constant rain and cloudbursts, police officers hurried to the scene and rescued over 100 trapped locals, according to the officials, who also noted that multiple vehicles were washed away in the flood created by an overflowing stream.
According to a spokesman for the traffic department, landslides, mudslides, and stone-throwing incidents at several locations between Nashri and Banihal caused traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to stop on both sides.
According to him, commuters were urged not to use the arterial route until the weather cleared and the road was clear because the rain was still falling along the highway.
